Les Rosbifs Awards 2011

All of the shortlisted candidates for the 2011 Les Rosbifs Awards have been announced, with the likes of David Beckham, Joe Cole and Scott Carson all in the running. The annual awards, which recognise the efforts and achievements of English footballers and coaches abroad, began in 2010 and can count on previous winners Steve McClaren (former FC Twente and England manager) Kenny Pavey (AIK Solna defender) amongst the judging panel.

Beckham is the favourite to cap a fine year with the Los Angeles Galaxy by securing the Player of the Year award. However, he will face stiff competition from the likes of former Manchester United defender Adam Eckersley (now with AGF in Denmark) and Calum Angus (former Portsmouth man, now playing in Sweden with GAIS Gothenburg).

Cole and Carson may be surprise omissions from the Player of the Year shortlist, but they are up for the New Rosbif award, alongside Hamburg and former Chelsea defender Michael Mancienne and former West Ham United and Aston Villa striker Marlon Harewood, who spent six months in the Chinese First Division. Harewood is also in the running for the Pioneer of the Year Award, which celebrates the footballing work of an Englishman working in a country outside of the top 50 FIFA nations.

The Team of the Year and the Special Achievement Award, which celebrates the work of an Englishman who has spent over 20 years working overseas in football, will be announced when the winners are revealed on 22nd December.
